Together we find the perfect cabin!
Buying property in Norway as a foreign citizen
Getting started
Norway is part of the EU and EEA, which permits the free flow of capital among European countries. This makes it easy for people from other European countries to buy property in Norway.
The process of purchasing property involves cooperation with a lawyer or real estate agent to ensure everything complies with the law. The deed, proof of ownership, is sent for registration once the property is paid for.
We assist with translations, banking contacts, and other information to make the process smooth for our customers.
Proof of financing
To purchase property in Norway, you must establish an account with a Norwegian bank. To have the deed registered, you must apply to Norwegian authorities for a D-number, which is your personal identification number in Norway.
The attorney or real estate agent will assist you with this process, but you need to provide approved identification from your home country. It may take up to three weeks to be assigned a D-number. To buy property or to build a cabin, you must provide proof of financing.
Acquiring ownership
The seller signs the deed, which is the proof of your ownership of the property. The deed is sent for registration when you have paid for the property through the attorney or real estate agent.
If you wish to build a cabin yourself, you will need to enter into a contract with a cabin supplier under the Planning and Building Act. Building a home or cabin is regulated by Norwegian law to protect the rights of the buyer.
You have the right to file a complaint if the cabin does not meet the agreed-upon quality standards, and you should not pay more during the construction process than the value added to the property.
